I received an interesting comment from an anonymous unsigned reader of one of my fanfics the other day. They said the fic that I just recently finished has been detected as being written with Sudowriter. Which is one of the many AI tools used for grammar and sentence structure.

Considering they did not log in and instead, posted it anonymously, there's no way to track or respond unless I do a comment after, but I reported it as spam and had it removed. Petty, but part of me is a bit rankled that someone decided that the 122nd fanfic I've ever published and written was written with an AI tool.

Over the span of 3 years.

And AI tools have recently gotten popular (like last 6 months or so). Yeah. I thought so...no proof, nothing, so most likely a troll comment designed to inflame and provoke a reaction. Which...I did. By deleting the comment and now am posting about this.

I don't mind writers using AI tools - they can be helpful in ways. I do believe in full disclosure and that when publishing their works, they must disclose that part of it was written with AI tools. Full transparency and all.

Oh, and also a pesky little thing called - copyright. Currently, copyright cannot be claimed on works created using AI digital art tools - so it would seem it to be applicable also to written verse? Maybe? Judgment deferred right now until the US Copyright Office comes back with a more definitive statement.

Anyways - I will never write with AI tools because I believe in my own writing and the strength of my own prose. I worked hard to write the way I write - and I'm pretty sure researching on the side helps a lot (can AI read Tallmadge's chicken-scratch atrocious handwriting? Probably not.). My philosophy on AI writers - great if you want to use them. I don't mind. I just want 2 things from the writer: disclosure and don't f--king ever accuse me of using an AI writing tool.
